Welcome to the MarmaJchan DAO’s Year in Review! This recap celebrates our 2023 journey, filled with groundbreaking achievements and community milestones. Before diving into our achievements, let’s introduce the MarmaJchan DAO. The MarmaJchan DAO, a sub-DAO of the Marma J Foundation, is dedicated to driving the creative and marketing efforts of both the Marma J Foundation and the Marma J DAO, while also offering robust support to other sub-DAOs. Our mission extends beyond governance initiatives to encompass a pivotal role in educating users about the NEAR Protocol.
Throughout 2023, we’ve excelled in providing accessible, user-friendly information for onboarding and engaging with the ecosystem, showcasing our unwavering commitment and creativity in advancing the NEAR ecosystem. Keep reading to see a recap of our achievements this year.
2023 Highlights and Achievements
MARMA J CON and Council Expansion
January 2023: We kickstarted the year by significantly contributing to the marketing and creative direction of MARMA J CON, the first-annual conference and hackathon hosted by the Marma J Foundation in Antigua.
Council Additions: The DAO warmly welcomed new council members Earnest in May and Nicole in June.
MarmaJchan VRM Project
May 2023: One of our biggest projects and greater ecosystem contributions of the year was the MarmaJchan VRM Project. Our goal was to create a VRM (Virtual Reality Modeling) model of our mascot, MarmaJchan, to create engaging content such as educational videos and guides for our community and the larger NEAR ecosystem, as well as 3-4 educational video guides using the completed VRM.
We are happy to report that this project was a success! Our team successfully created three downloadable VRM models, a user guide complete with video tutorials on how to use the VRM model, and four educational video guides featuring the VRM model. Check out the videos below!

MarmaJchan DAO at ETH Milan
September 2023: September 2023 marked a significant milestone for the MarmaJchan DAO as we prepared for a showcase at ETH Milan. Embodying our commitment to nurture a thriving community of Web3 creatives, this initiative highlighted the power of artistic collaboration within the NEAR ecosystem. Our project centred around commissioning three talented artists to create a series of unique comic strips, each featuring our mascot, MarmaJchan. These comics, titled “MarmaJchan Web3 Idol,” “The Power of Optimism,” and “Best Friend Forever,” weren’t just visually engaging narratives but also an onboarding tool to the NEAR ecosystem.
The distribution of these comics at ETH Milan was an innovative blend of physical and digital realms. Attendees received beautifully printed copies, each embedding a QR code that linked to the comic’s Non-Fungible Token (NFT) on ShardDog. This dual-purpose approach served as both an educational tool and an onboarding mechanism. It provided newcomers with an insightful peek into the NEAR ecosystem, while NEAR wallet holders could seamlessly add a digital version of the comic to their collection. This strategy not only showcased our creative prowess but also highlighted the practical applications of NFTs in real-world scenarios.
In parallel, the MarmaJchan DAO also extended its marketing expertise to the Marma J Gaming DAO’s project for ETH Milan. This project was conceived with the vision of intertwining the realms of blockchain, gaming, and art in a meaningful and visually captivating way. By commissioning 12 artists to create Italy-themed pixel art for Marma J Gaming’s Pixel Party, the initiative celebrated the diverse and transformative potential of collaboration within the NEAR ecosystem. These pixel art pieces, minted as NFTs, were not only artistic expressions but also symbolized the innovative fusion of technology and creativity.

We are committed to further enhancing the creative and marketing endeavours of the Marma J Foundation, the Marma J DAO, its sub-DAOs, and the broader NEAR ecosystem.
