Hello there, Marma J Community! My name is Nicole (nicolesuria.near) and I’m happy to be part of this community. In this post, I will be discussing an art piece that I created, the process of making this piece, and minting this artwork as an NFT.
About The Artwork: “A Helping Hand Community”
Marma J Foundation’s main purpose is to spread love, positivity and support by leveraging Web3 tech for social good. The art piece I made represents how I interpret the Marma J Foundation. I have been a member of the Marma J Community for a small amount of time, starting as an Axie Scholar, but the experience and things that I have learned make me feel like I have been part of the community since its beginnings. I’m still exploring and growing within the community.
About The Art Process
The “A Helping Hand” artwork was created on Ibis Paint X, my phone and a drawing pen. For me, I find it most convenient to use a drawing pen when creating art as I am still learning to use drawing tools.
I drew hands to symbolize ‘support’ which I have seen be a major theme of the Marma J Foundation; they have been a helping hand to the local communities they find themselves in. Especially their ‘spread the love’ project, in which they were able to provide support to marginalized individuals in Windsor, ON. This project is documented on the Marma J Foundation YouTube as well as on their blog. To me, this project has the same vibe with the quote “we can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone”.
Pictured above is how my art was first created, but I wanted the background to have more design and texture that would be blended with the helping hands. I searched on the internet to see if there was something I could use as a reference for the background that would relate to the Marma J Foundation. I then found a photo that looked like their logo and asked permission if I could use it as the background image of my art piece. After receiving permission, I incorporated the mosaic background into my final piece.
The Colour Palette
For this piece, I used the official MarmaJchan colour palette as well as the Mosaic Colour Palette. I saw another artist who created a piece for the Marma J Community had also used the Mosaic Colour palette. I love how colourful and warm the colours are.
Minting Art As An NFT on Mintbase
The Marma J Foundation leverages web3 technology to support social good initiatives. The economic resources earned in this space are distributed to the community members and projects they support/create. One way that web3 artists can leverage the NEAR ecosystem is by creating art and minting it as an NFT on Mintbase. NEAR from NFT sales on this platform are split between the platform, the artist, and in some cases- the store owner.
Mintbase has two options that artists can pick how to sell their art- either as a simple sale or as a rolling auction. A Helping Hand Community was minted on the Marma J Foundation’s community store, “Letsbbcre8iv”, and put up as a simple sale. I minted 5 editions of this NFT and listed it for 2 NEAR each. I split the revenue from this piece with the Marma J DAO (marmaj.sputnik-dao.near) by 50 percent.
A Note From The Author
Anybody is welcome to this community! Before I became a member of this community I was new to web3 technology. Now that I have been in this community, I have created my own NFT, play a blockchain game (Axie Infinity), stake some tokens, and even write blogs for the Marma J Foundation.
