Playing online games is thrilling and fun, but did you know that you can earn while playing a game? Isn’t it exciting to have an enjoyable extra source of income? If you haven’t heard of NFTs then it’s time for you to learn about it. NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token, it is a digital asset that can take many forms, mostly it’s art, music, videos, and games that exist in the Web3 space. The term “non-fungible” means that it’s unique and irreplaceable which you have the original copy that is recorded on a blockchain to certify authenticity and ownership of a specific digital asset. NFTs differ from cryptocurrencies because NFT’s are one-of-a-kind tokens, where cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin are fungible tokens.
An example of a popular game that incorporates NFTs into its game structure is Axie Infinity. Axie Infinity is a blockchain game and digital pet universe where players battle, raise, and trade fantasy creatures called Axies! In this blog post, I’ll share my experience as a scholar in one of the most known NFT games in my county, also booming in other countries. Let me introduce to you a popular play-to-earn game called ‘Axie Infinity’.
My Experience As An Axie Infinity Scholar
Axie Infinity is a decentralized play-to-earn game developed by Vietnamese Studio Sky Mavis. It was founded in March 2018 and can be played on android phones, iPhones, and PC. It uses an Etherium-based cryptocurrency named AXS (Axie Infinity Shards) and SLP (Smooth Love Potion).
The NFTs in the game are these adorable and fluffy creatures called ‘Axies’ which were inspired by Pokemon and Tamagotchi, with gameplay like Yugioh, a turn-based card game where the goal is to defeat all of your enemies. The game creates a player-owned economy revolving around these Axies, or some called it ‘Monster NFTs’, where you can earn SLP tokens by playing and battling these Axies. Another way to earn in Axie Infinity is through breeding Axies and sell them in the marketplace.
If you have a team composed of three Axies, whether it’s beast, aquatic, plant, bird, bug, reptile, mech, dawn or dusk… or maybe a hybrid Axie which is a mix of two creatures, then you are ready to play.
What Is An Axie Scholarship?
You might be asking yourself, “do I have the money to invest in this game”? No? No worries, we are in the same boat. Don’t lose hope, there is still a way to play and earn without putting a cent. With your time, effort, and skills you can become an Axie Scholar…just like me. You might be asking ‘what is an Axie Scholarship?’, ‘is that the same as a university scholarship?’, ‘how can I apply to this scholarship?’. Now, I’ll share my experience and how I went from an aspiring Axie Scholar to a real Axie Scholar.
Axie Scholarship programs allow people to invest and build a business in Axie Infinity where they can earn a passive income of SLP tokens gained from their scholars who are playing the game. It is not Sky Mavis that offers these scholarship programs, but rather by people who own Axie’s. These people who own Axies but do not necessarily have the time to play and instead allow a “scholar” to utilize their account can be called “managers”. Scholars have the opposite dillema who have time to play Axie Infinity but do not have the fiscal resources to invest in the game. As mentioned previously, a player will need a team of at least three Axies to play the game and earn tokens.
Normally, you can apply to be an Axie Scholar in the Axie Infinity Discord channel, or on other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit. It can be difficult to find a manager or get accepted to an Axie Scholarship as there are a lot of candidates applying for these positions. Some managers will ask for a resume and even have an interview.
When it comes to the splits, typically it’s 50/50 (between Managers and Axie Scholars), but some managers will give higher splits and others lower percentages to their scholars, it really depends on the agreement between the manager and scholar. Also, the payout is usually 15 days from the day you started to play the game. Then the manager will send your SLP percentage to your Ronin wallet, but some managers send it to a bank account where the SLP is converted to your local currency. For me, it’s better in a Ronin wallet so I can hold my cryptocurrency and sell it when the value is much higher. From my experience, it took me almost a month to find a manager which I’m lucky to found. She is very kind to give her scholar 80% of the earned SLP, which is rare to find a kind of splitting terms.
How I Earn In Axie Infinity
I’ve earned SLP in the game by completing the daily quest that requires check-in, finish and win 5 battles in the arena, and 10 wins of the adventure. I recommend levelling up your Axies EXPs in the adventure or PVE (Person Versus Environment) to receive the reward in ruins 21 and 36, also to grind faster but the level won’t affect in PVP (Person Versus Person). The minimum SLP you can grind in a day is 75 SLPs, 50 in the adventure and 25 when you completed the daily quest. Winning in the arena will allow you to gain more SLP, depending on the MMR or rank of your team. It’s not easy to win in the arena especially there’s a lot of strong and skillful Axies coming in the game, some days are lucky, and some days are not so lucky.
To be honest, the money I’ve earned in this game is higher than my full-time salary. That’s why I understand why some people resigned from their jobs and become full-time Axie players or play any other play-to-earn games. In my opinion, stick with your job (if you’re still happy on your work), play Axie Infinity, and have multiple sources of income. For me, Axie Infinity is more than just a game, as I treat it like a part-time job that I have to commit in that game, play daily and play hard.
It’s really a life-changing to be part of this game. Being an Axie Infinity Scholar gives me a new way to earn a living, and helps me to provide for my family, pay the bills and save up. Not only financially, but also in terms of knowledge in the crypto world my manager introduced and guided me on this crypto journey. Hoping I can learn more and share my knowledge.
